Skin is the oldest of the Victoria England collection. In the late 1800's, the Rinderpest outbreak destroyed much of the animal population in Southern Africa. The traditional leopard skin "Kaross" as worn by the Basotho was no longer in ready supply. this shortage, accompanied by the enthusiastic approval of the Basotho Heritage Blanket by King Moshoeshoe, led to the widespread adoption of the blanket wearing tradition by the Basotho people.
